Dr. Miranda E. Orr is an Associate Professor of Neurology and Co-Director of the Tracy Family SILQ Center at Washington University in St. Louis, MO, USA. She leads a translational neurobiology laboratory that applies spatial multi-omics to define how biological aging increases vulnerability to neurodegenerative diseases, including Alzheimer’s disease. Dr. Orr was the first to establish a mechanistic link between cellular senescence (a hallmark of aging) and intraneuronal tau accumulation, demonstrate direct relevance in postmortem human brain tissue, and translate this work into Phase I and ongoing Phase II clinical trials testing senescent cell removal in early Alzheimer’s disease. Since 2018, she has been a leader in advancing spatial omics in neuroscience, with a particular focus on spatial proteomics, and was integral to the development of the first 1100+ plex spatial protein panel. She has also advocated for policies that support innovation and responsible translation in spatial biology. In recognition of this leadership, her laboratory was designated as the first Bruker Spatial Biology Center of Excellence.
