Associate Professor Helen McGuire, a highly driven researcher at the University of Sydney, is a recognised international leader in applying mass cytometry to immunology. Her research focuses on understanding human diseases, particularly cancer, through immunological studies and the application of technological advances such as high-dimensional cytometry and imaging. Her lab pioneered a novel mass cytometry-based approach to identify a pre-therapy immune signature that can predict a patient's response to immune checkpoint inhibitors. Her recent research has focused on assay format innovations to optimise remote study site usage, as well as building imaging multiomic capabilities. In addition to her significant publication record, she has also been recognised for her leadership and mentorship. She has held various leadership positions in the Australasian Cytometry Society, including president, and currently serves on the International Society for Advancement of Cytometry Council. The International Society has awarded her the Marylou Ingram Scholar for the Advancement of Cytometry, and she was previously supported as a National Health and Medical Research Council (CJ Martin) Postdoctoral Fellow at Stanford University.
