A/PROF FERNANDO GUIMARAES

Associate Professor & Group Leader, Frazer Institute, University of Queensland, Australia

A/Prof. Guimaraes was the inaugural graduate of the International PhD Program at Institut Pasteur Paris. Following postdoctoral positions at QIMR and WEHI, he established his research group at UQ's Frazer Institute in 2019, where he leads a program focused on developing innovative approaches for hard-to-cure cancers, with particular expertise in natural killer (NK) cell biology and preclinical immunotherapy development.

His contributions have been recognized through competitive peer-reviewed funding and a portfolio of 118 publications in high-impact journals including Nature Immunology, Nature Communications, PNAS, JEM, Blood, and Cell Death & Differentiation (H-index: 44), alongside multiple patents. This work has identified novel regulators of immune function and advanced NK cell-based immunotherapies into translational partnerships with multiple industry and hospital stakeholders.
